Diminish Restlessness

Dentro do programa de 21 dias de meditação que estou fazendo, esse é o do dia 3. Mas como é indicada a prática por 21 dias, nos 20 minutos antecedentes ao sono, achei interessante compartilhar.

“Today’s meditation is an energy-aligning meditation, meant for dealing with restlessness. When you are feeling restless, pay attention and you’ll notice it is often your hands that are restless, or your legs that are jumpy, or your head that is working overtime. In the context of this meditation Osho explains that it is just that your body is not aligned, the energy is not proportionately distributed. Taking the extremities of the body – legs, hands, head – as separate, as is done in this meditation, only the essential will remain; your whole energy will move into the torso, the essential part. That essential part will relax and the energy will start flowing in your legs, in your hands, in your head, again, in a more proportionate way. A new distribution of energies is needed. It is always energy being more in one part, less in another, that makes you feel lopsided, restless. With this technique, which is done just before going to sleep at night, this restlessness will settle. While listening to these instructions, you can already follow them in this moment, to get the feel of the method.

Sit comfortably in a chair and rest your head back, like you do at the dentist. You can use a pillow, so you are in a resting posture. Then release your lower jaw. Just relax it so the mouth opens slightly, and start breathing from the mouth, not from the nose. Don’t change your breathing – let it be as it is, natural. The first few breaths will be a little hectic. By and by your breathing will settle down and become very shallow. It will go in and out very slightly, and that is how it should be. Keep your mouth open, eyes closed, and rest. Then start feeling that your legs are becoming loose, as if they are being taken away from you, cut loose from the joints, broken off. Feel as if your legs are being taken away from you and then start thinking that you are just the upper part of your body; the legs are gone. Then the hands – think that both the hands are becoming loose and being taken away from you. You may even be able to hear a little click! Inside as if they are broken. You are no more your hands – they are dead, taken away. And also the arms… … Just the torso remains, and the head. Then start thinking about the head – that it is also being taken away. Leave it loose: wherever it turns, right, left, you cannot do anything. Just leave it loose; it has been taken away. Then you have just your torso. Feel that you are only this much – this chest, the belly, that’s all. Do this for at least 20 minutes before you go to sleep, and do it for at least three weeks. The restlessness will settle.

And now, take a moment, starting outward from the torso, to feel its connection with your head, your hands, your legs again; the torso is in fact connecting you to each of them. Gently moving your fingers, your toes, and your head for a moment … come back to the reality of your body as one whole; and come back to your day…”
